Answer: Alliance for Felix Cove utilizes both Defend and Decolonize strategies to protect the only remaining Tamal Huye (Coast Miwok) built home on ancestral homelands on Calupetamal now known as the Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS) and to Decolonize the identify and history of Calupetamal from the European and Euro-American ranching history of PRNS. The Felix family, a Tamal Huye family, lived at Point Reyes Peninsula since time immemorial and the cove, now named Lairds Landing since the Mexican era of California (1822-1848). Lairds Landing is on the western shores of Tomales Bay which is a 90 minute drive north from San Francisco in Marin County. Nineteenth century dairy ranchers, the Lairds, used the road that leads to the cove to access Tomales Bay to load dairy products (e.g., cheese and butter) for shipment to San Francisco. According to the Felix family, they lived at the cove from early 1800s. At least four generations of the Felix family lived at the cove until unjustly evicted by white ranchers in the 1950s.
