Answer: Alliance for Children Everywhere (ACE) operates programs for orphaned and abandoned children in Zambia. Currently, we have four staff in the U.S. and around 100 staff in Zambia. We work with key staff, the Zambian government and other crucial partners from global organizations, including the faith-based community in Zambia to offer comprehensive care in family permanence, child welfare and education. We believe in empowering Zambians to care for their country and join them in their vision to do so. Our greatest challenge is the magnitude according to UNICEF, in 2015, Zambia ranked as the highest orphan population per capita in the world, with 1,400,000 orphans*. Contrasted to 187 other nations, the hardships of HIV/AIDS colliding with economic and social poverty has decimated the previously prosperous nation of Zambia. As we have followed the demographic research over the past several years, neither extended families nor the government holds the full economic capacity to care for the nations 1.4m orphans. The responsibility of caring for orphaned children is a major factor in pushing many extended families beyond their ability to cope. Nearly 50% of Zambias children are underfed, leading to stunted growth and delay in development. Often times, children are abandoned in dire circumstance when families are unable to financially care for their children. One of our programs, Family Preservation, provides infant formula/food to families, with the hope of preventing abandonment or starvation. Approximately 60% of Zambian children cannot attend school due to neither their family, nor their government having the resources necessary to fund their education ACE partners with churches who provide the infrastructure for operating our FaithWorks schools as well as the Helen DeVos Christian School. Our model of partnership is highly regarded by national and world leaders, supported by diverse NGO partners, and endorsed by credible third parties.
