Answer: The Alabama Opportunity Scholarship Fund (AOSF) is a new scholarship organization formed to help implement the Alabama Accountability Act. The Alabama Accountability Act is a tremendous first step toward helping public education fulfills its potential of equal opportunity. At the very heart of this, legislation is providing better educational opportunities to children who need help the most. AOSF was developed to provide educational opportunities to those families who otherwise could not afford them. AOSF along with the Alabama Accountability Act hopes to become a valuable component of education, empowering low-income parents and guardians to select schools that best fit their children's academic needs. Alabama's public school teachers and principals are doing heroic work. The fact is, however, not all children learn the same way or in the same environment. What works for one child may not work for another. This program helps alleviate the financial barrier for economically disadvantaged children so that they can find a school that works for them. AOSF will award scholarships to eligible, low-income students, to pay for private school tuition or transfer fees to a non-failing public school.
