Answer: The Pathways to Wellness - African American Training and Technical Assistance (AATA) Program contracted with Alameda County Behavioral Health in 2018 to provide training and resources to health care providers and the community in order to improve the mental health of African American clients. This program has grown over the last 4 years into a platform to educate and serve our community, community leaders, and fellow Alameda County Mental Health Organizations. Our team of qualified trainers will deliver workshops via Zoom and in-person to psychiatric providers to enhance the accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of mental health conditions in the African American community. Learning objectives will include recognizing racial bias and the impact on diagnostic and treatment decisions for African Americans across the age span, identifying the role of culture in symptom presentation, expression, and alternative healing practices, and addressing different medication prescription for African Americans across the age span.
