Answer: 5280 Prosthetics LLC designs and develops intelligent prosthetic socket technologies that communicate through smart devices. 5280 Prosthetics is an industry leader in vacuum suspension technology. 5280's company mission is to improve the lives of amputees through better technology. The SmartPuck was invented by two clinical prosthetists in Colorado and inspired by amputees that were looking for something better. One of the most secure ways to hold a prosthesis onto a limb is elevated vacuum. Our team had used existing products on the market and had the same complaint from all of our patients "the vacuum feels good , but it leaks and is too much trouble to maintain the system." We set out with the goal of fixing the problems with existing elevated vacuum systems and developed the first vacuum system that is designed to go inside the prosthesis. By placing the vacuum pump within the socket chamber, we eliminated 99% of the problems that occur. One day, as we were working on the Bluetooth configuration we booted up the office computers and there it was... the new iPhone from Apple was released (2007). The light went off, "why can't we use the phone to control and communicate with the prosthesis". We have been hard at it ever since!
